Provenance

Purchased in 2009 via GameUsedAuctions.net, this Sherwood SOP 7000 represents a game-used wooden stick from Martin Havlát’s early NHL career with the Ottawa Senators. Documentation accompanying the acquisition confirms authenticity and seasonal use during Havlat’s sophomore campaign (2001–2002), a season in which he recorded 59 points and established himself as one of Ottawa’s top offensive talents.

Description and Significance

This artifact exemplifies the final era of full-wood NHL sticks prior to the complete transition to composite construction. The Sherwood SOP 7000, featuring an aspen core laminated with birch and vertically reinforced with fiberglass, provided traditional flex and tactile puck control prized by early-2000s forwards. The SOP 7000 was exclusively used by professional players. The amateur equivalent was the Sherwood PMP 7000.

Havlat’s stick shows characteristic wear with moderate heel chipping, shaft tape discoloration, and deep puck impact impressions.

This stick holds special significance as an early-career artifact from one of the most dynamic Czech wingers and Olympian of the 2000s and a representative piece from Ottawa’s early-2000s playoff contending rosters.
